Semester’s over!

Howdy! I finally have a few minutes to sit down and blab about what’s been going on.

This semester was like nothing I thought it would be. I’ve had 4 classes at once before, and while a lot of work, they were manageable, but 5 was something else. If faced with it again, I’d stretch it over two semesters. I looked at my cell phone’s log, and it noted that in October, I made one phone call on it, and that’s it. Never received any; just the one outgoing. Finals were also quite the pile of work at the end.

Alas, I’ve passed all my classes, my overall GPA at Oakland University is 3.21, and I’m off to Redmond permanently in a few weeks. For the curious, my degree is Bachelors of Science in Engineering (BSE) – Computer Engineering.

Now that the semester’s over, it’s turned into a rush to take care of everything I’ve put on hold over the semester in the next few weeks. Right now I’m in the middle of building a new server for my mother’s office. I’ve entered the world of 64-bit computing, and I must say I wish the drivers for that were on the CDs that came with everything rather than needing to go download them all. The timing’s right I suppose; the power supply in the current server died tonight, and I had to do a quick replace with one just sitting up there from an old case to keep it running overnight and for tomorrow. I’ll pick up a new one before I run back out there. Direcway will be out to install broadband up there, also. After that’s in, I’ll finish up with the server swap, which probably will need at least a few more days. Then it’ll be time to build her website in time for this coming tax season.

Some version of the common cold (rhinovirus?) flew around campus at the end of November, and of course, I caught it. Stuffy nose, followed by the two and a half weeks of coughing, were not exactly in my plans. I’m finally getting over it, but I still have a little bit of that cough; not enough to need cough syrup, but still, it’s there. I skipped on the doctor visit as there was no sign of a bacterial infection; antibiotics would have been pointless for this. No fever or anything like that; it was pure signs of a viral infection. I’ve had enough colds to know the symptoms of each type.

My family’s going nuts over me heading to Microsoft again. I look forward to it. It still seems unreal, of course. Maybe it’ll sink in once I’m back out there, but it’s like I’m dreaming still.

Well it’s really late, and I have to get up in about 6 hours, so this is where I’ll end it. It pretty much does the job of bringing things up to current time anyway. I have some pictures I need to add to the gallery, which I think I’ll do by the end of the week. Right now, everything needs to focus on preparing to move, and to getting this server deployed. Everything else is second level priority.

Hope everyone is having a happy holiday!
