Blogging from the couch

Hi everyone.  Hope your weekend went well.  Mine was uneventful… I stayed home and relaxed.  Was nice for a change.  I did do a couple things, though, like pay bills and pick up somewhat.

I forget when it arrived already, but I ordered a part from ATI to go from DVI to Component video, so now my PC is hooked up to my TV set, and that gives two benefits.  First, I’m blogging from the couch while looking at the TV.  Quite nice, actually.  With this, I have achieved a new level of laziness.  I had to go to a larger screen font to read things, so some web pages don’t render right now.  Surprisingly enough, this includes my blog… the elements to the right now appear at the bottom.

Second, when I bought new hard drives, since one went bad and I wasn’t going to do raid mirroring again with the other drive, I installed Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, so now I get to watch TV and IM at the same time, along with managing photos, videos, and music from my TV set.  I have the Media Center remote and keyboard (that’s how I’m typing this) and it makes for an interesting multimedia experience.  And since I’m a geek, I like the little noises it makes, and the screens are really nice to look at, and not so dreary like the cable box, even though the cable box is running Microsoft software.  ;)

Corrine, I forgot all about the rollerblade idea.  I’ll keep that in mind, but I wouldn’t be honest if I didn’t say that it’s not exactly a winning idea for me.  If you come out for the MVP summit (hint hint) I can show you all the uphill on the way to work.  Carrying a 20 pound backpack (my laptop’s heavy, along with other crap in it) while rollerblading pretty much uphill for 4 miles doesn’t exactly seem like a fun time.

But I’ll think about it.

Hmm, what else is new.  Oh, I finally hooked a webcam up, and it looks like crap, but what the heck.  It’s linked on the right, but you can click here to see it.  If I get bored, I’ll add more, but for now, this one’s aimed at the couch.  I don’t spend much time at the desk anymore, for reasons explained above. ;) I was thinking maybe move this camera, and by move I mean replace with a better model and then move it, to a higher point, looking down at things.  Kind of like becoming one of those TV shows… you can watch me spill things on the carpet and then clean it up and stuff.  I mention this because I know how I’ll be with webcams… they don’t have a convenient switch to turn them on and off, and I’ll fall asleep on the couch with them on and then run to go to work in the morning and you’ll stare at an empty couch all day and stuff.  Maybe I’ll aim one outside like DataBrokers does (if you’re in some of the IRC channels I’m in, you know who DataBrokers is).  The “back yard” is kind of yellow looking since it’s winter at the moment, but from what I hear, it’s nice to see during the summer.  Winter doesn’t seem to bother the crickets though; they keep on chirping.

Speaking of winter, we had really strange snowballs fall from the sky.  It was almost as if it should have been hail, but they didn’t freeze all the way or something.  They were soft and about 2 centimeters in diameter (that’s about 3/4 of an inch mom and dad).  I took a picture but it’s in my cell phone until I get it out of there.  Really strange.

BTW, I know the webcam page is ugly… I threw it together in a rush just to get the upload and refresh working… in time, I’ll make it look nicer.

Well it’s late and I need to work in the morning, so I’ll chop this entry here.  Laterz.

Was told it was time to blog again

So here I go.

Finally took the time to get a haircut today.  I think it’s been… 3 months?  It was 2005, anyway.  I need to buy groceries again, so probably on the way home from work tomorrow… oh who am I kidding?  I’m gonna come home and sit on my butt.  We’ll see.  There’s a 24-hour grocery store maybe a half mile from where I live, so it’s not far, and if I go the whole mile, there’s another of the same grocery store, go figure.

I’m looking at either a bike or some small motorized thing like a scooter or moped to take on short trips.  It seems silly to get in the car to go not very far all the time.  Plus it really is a nice area and I wouldn’t mind taking it in, say, on my way to work.  I’ll need a rainsuit for the rainy days, but that’s no biggie.  A bike would help me stay healthy, but it’s all uphill to go to work (waah waah I know).  Helmets are required by law, so don’t worry mom.  My big worry on a bike is if suddenly I need to go somewhere from work other than home and it’s not exactly close, then other than taking the bus or riding a taxi, that’s a long bike ride.  Besides, riding a scooter to work is what nerdy people are supposed to do, right? ;)

So what do you think?  Bike?  Scooter/moped?  Walk (AH! It’s 4 miles!)?  Keep-on drivin’?
