I’m a malware analyst at Microsoft [microsoft.com] here in Redmond, Washington. I joined full time in January 2006 after graduating from Oakland University [oakland.edu] in December 2005 with a Bachelor’s in Science and Engineering: Computer Engineering. Prior to that I worked on definitions for TrojanHunter [misec.net], and before that Ad-Aware [lavasoft.com].
For fun I enjoy visiting amusement parks, with my favorite one being Cedar Point [cedarpoint.com] in Sandusky, Ohio. I also enjoy GeoCaching [geocaching.com] and hanging out with friends, whether going out for dinner, grabbing a coffee, or seeing a movie. When I lived in Michigan, I often went inline skating at one of the parks there, but haven’t done that since I moved here.
I grew up on a farm in southeast lower Michigan, and while we didn’t have any animals, raising crops is still quite a lot of work. A stretch without rain, or conversely a lot of rain, and you’re back out there planting everything again. When I wasn’t working on the farm, I was messing around with electronics and computers. My parents were, and still are, very supportive of my passion for computing, and I can’t thank them enough for helping me achieve my dreams.
I started this blog as a way to share what’s going on in my life with family and friends. While many chose MySpace for that purpose, I wanted something a little more personal, and since I’m a geek, something I could install and administer on my own. I do have MySpace and Facebook accounts, but I don’t regularly use them.
I hold an amateur radio license, but since I moved to Redmond, I haven’t been on the air much. Back in Michigan I was part of the Oakland County Amateur Radio Public Service Corps [qsl.net] with a group of other volunteers. I enjoyed working with them and miss it very much. I also enjoyed being a spotter for the National Weather Service, but given there isn’t much severe weather in the Seattle area, I haven’t done that out here either.
Hopefully I’ve given the basics here. The rest you can find out from my blog posts. Feel free to comment, too. I enjoy interacting with visitors.
Take care!
Aaron
